Rattlesnakes are pretty friendly in comparison to a lot of other things, they usually warn you when you get too close. Except the one that bit me when I reached under our trailer to get the ball that rolled under there when I was nine or ten. That little ****** caught me by surprise. I surprised it by cutting it's head off with a shovel and then riding my bike to the hospital with it in a glass jar. In retrospect, if it'd injected any significant amount of poison, riding my bike probably would have killed me, so I guess I was lucky.

It was a mama snake, and a few days later, I watched all the little baby snakes migrate out into the desert. I kind of felt bad for them. Got a cool scar though.

I was once wading through a creek in Boone, NC with a friend looking for salamanders and a three and a half foot long copper snake swam by us, maybe a yard and a half away. We just froze and practically shat our pants. Awesome pictures, kudos to you for dealing with the snake in the way you did. Some of you guys are kind of embarrassing.

Cool, every cottonmouth I've encountered has had attitude problems. But I guess it's understandable since it's probably ******** bricks at the sight of you as well. The rattlers I've seen (all on bike trails at dawn) are rather relaxed. Sucks you gotta move them away from the trails and it pisses them off. They are all in the sun there and you gotta come interrupt their tanning session. I'd be pissed too. I hate killing such pretty animals though, unless they genuinely ask for it.

Awesome pictures. How often do you get snakes in your yard?

Used to walk my dog along a bayou in Houston (for those of you from Houston, near Barker Cypress Dr. towards Katy) and would run into these F***ers pretty routinely, except the ones in Houston were black. Freaked me out the first few times as they caught me by surprise, but then I got used ot them and would just watch very closely for suspicious looking black bundles laying in the grass. Amazing what you get used to.
