I think it's the bread.
This is how it usually works: Walk into Subway, walk out, smell like Subway for next 3 weeks no matter how often you shower.

There is this distinct stench that fills every franchise, permeates your clothes and haunts you for the following weeks. I gave up on that place years ago when I realized I knew better.

I am so glad to know I am not the only one. Whenever my wife wants to go there for lunch (thankfully not too often) I always say "I am going to smell like subway for the rest of the day!"

Pretty sure it is from all the yeast and bread in such a small venue. Anyone else notice that Subway restaurants seem to be crammed into the tiniest of places?

Does Panera have a certain odor to it?

I've worked at one throughout my time at University (and before hand too, it was my first job). Nothing beats getting free food on a student budget, so I can save that budget for SF B&S

I gave up on washing my uniform regularly, that smell is so ridiculous. My street clothes that I change out of and leave in the back room still smell like subway when I get home.

i thought this was going to be the smell of different subways/metro/underground of the cities of the world.

Paris: One of the worst offenders as it smells like a musty tomb with a side order of urine and not even Louvre stop with its art can hide the fact. But there is/was an underground film community that held bunker film nights so it has its graces.

Berlin: Not too bad as the systems do not run too deep underground and the food kiosks of fresh bakery goods makes it almost pleasant.

London: The walkways leading to the station are always quite rank and I have given up commuting and just drive my car in the winter and scoot rest of time. Varying smells depending on which line you are on or carriage. Most likely to get 'steamed' if display of wealth or slumped over your evening standard.

Budapest: If you haven't noticed by the time you switch lines at deak ferenc that the ticket counter ripped you more than 15,000 forint if you have given a 20,000 note then just console yourself in a hot mineral spa or other known specialties.

St Petersburg & Moscow: Elegant scrum - whole orchestras play during the rush hour and very wide hallways which separate the platforms. Some have gates which you have to wait to enter the platform ; don't get too caught up drifting off as you will notice a gang of pheasants happily helping themselves to your pockets.

Bilbao/Barcelona: only went a few stops before small bands of gypsies were eyeing my backpack - good thing I don't use them anymore.

I don't know man... but this happens to me too, whether in the united states or singapore. Their franchise agreements must be tight.

Pheasants, you say?

As for Subway, I don't notice a lingering smell, nor do I get all the hate for their sandwiches.
