This would be my approach. Your friends need to grow up.

So I'm having my birthday party at a favorite dive bar during the afternoon this weekend. The place was really cool and set aside a nice section for us free of charge. Im excited and told everyone to invite whoever they want since the place will be pretty dead that time of day. Its located in a the predominately hipster/gay zone of the city.

One problem: Some buddies I had a few years ago got wind of it and are coming from out of town. It was just going to be one or two of them but now its turning into a huge crew. They are basically your standard frat fare and VERY VERY VERY loud and the words "faaaaag" and "****" will be flying like rain in a downpour (they yell this stuff at each other..its not really homophobic. We used to pull that **** all the time, but I stopped when I grew up a bit).

There have been a shitload of attacks and other violence on teh gheys in that neighborhood lately and a lot of them are out for blood if anyone pulls any homphobic **** right now.

I'm not sure what to do. My friends are telling me not to move my party to another neighborhood and "don't worry, we'll handle it if things get out of hand", etc.

I just don't want to

a) cause a fight
b)tell them they can't come and lose about 10 friends (like I said its ignorance, not hate in their case)
c)get kicked out and ruin my rep at a bar I love to frequent and piss off my current friends
d)have to stay sober and babysit out of town friends while they act like jackasses

Where are you taking them? Capitol Hill? Broadway? I went to high school at Seattle Academy on Capitol Hill and I do not think you will really run into to any trouble unless you are taking them to the Men's Room or Basic Pluming...other places they will probably just ask you to leave.

...if you are worried about your friends upsetting people why not just take them somewhere else?

Keeping/worrying about the feeling of ten friends who are ignorant douchebags and can't go out in public without embarrassing you or themselves sounds rather ignorant to me. But, hey, I say tomato, you say tomAHto. I only have a very small group of core friends, anyway. I've long since learned that worrying about the feelings of a huge group of people from every stage in my life and carrying them over into my new circumstances is a recipe for disaster and embarrassment. Best just to remember the fun old times and relegate them to a yearly phone call on their birthdays and your Christmas Card list.

Appropriation of "negative" language by marginalized groups is nothing new as a method of empowerment or as a step towards some sort of group consciousness. It's ultimately counterproductive, I think, but that doesn't stop it from happening.

They aren't geigh-haterz, they're just...not city folk. They don't get it and why you don't use certain nouns as adjectives in certain neighborhoods. But they use them A LOT. And it with stripey shirts. *gulp*

Maybe they grew up too. Well, there's always the Blue Oyster Bar.

Capitol Hill it is.

Actually the one who is driving them over (who is a few IQ points more intelligent than the rest) called me and I explained my feelings on the matter and she completely understood. As did another one of my friends who called her to explain again. So far it just looks like one of them is coming. Which is more manageable.

And he wants to go to a gay bar.

That's just crazy!! We all know that when guys want to live in close quarters to other guys, at let's say a Frat house, and hang, play rugby and football and do a lot of drinking and bonding there isn't anything gay abou that!! Its all designed to pick up chicks, because they hunt with a pack mentality.
