Yes, horween is more expensive.

One thing I don't understand.
Labour and land is not cheaper in Japan than States. Both source their horse butt in europe. Why horween is that expensive? That means horween make a lot of money.

As far as I know Horween shells are so expensive because in the tanning process they use a lot shells are waisted because they do not meet the standard or are not useable. I do not know how it works in the Japanes tannery but I know a shoe manufacturer that used both and told me the Horween shells are far better...

Horween is a union shop located in a gentrified neighborhood on the North side of Chicago; Not particularly low overhead. In fact, a century ago there were two dozen tanneries in their neighborhood now all are long gone except for Horween.

That strip of Elston used to be called "tannery row" many moons ago.

I don't know...Horween shells look nicer to me but you can't really tell from the pictures. They have much more depth and look richer than your samples. Those shells look almost like "corrected grain shell" if there is such a thing!

Hey, don't take my opinion to heart though...all that matters is what makes you happy! Remember, obviously I am a bit biased. Good luck, I'd love to see the finished products!

I bought the shell just for fun. Of course I hope the Japanese shell is up to par of Horween, then we can have a cheaper alternative.

My Horween shell is making to a double monk, hopefully will be finish at July.
My Cordovan Vass is horween, I like it a lot.
I have nothing against Horween except the price.

Just got the shell from Japan!

Which is thinner, harder than Horween shell.
Yes, it look little bit plasticly. Not as oily as horween.
Should I make it to a pair of shoe, to see how it turn out?

I went to check out the horween shell this afternoon.
The Alden shell cordovan color #8 chukka boot look also plasticly.
