Okay, that aside, are there any actual ideas re: my original post?
Much anger in you I sense.
Not at all. It's just that your original question and reasoning are strange. You wish to use the internet to communicate but have issues with your info being compromised/viewed/screened/? You are aware that it is 2010. The internet is out there and ANYONE can access if they really want to. There is NO solution that anyone on SF can give you for a secure/non creepy platform for yur to do that. I'm actually in a great mood...no work tomorrow!
Okay. But you do see the point, that the problem gets bigger when the company where your data is stored gets bigger, don't you?

Does anyone know good, independent alternatives?
There are data mining companies who if payed enough will find all your pw/email/info anyway. The idea of privacy or anonymity, especially on the internet is a fallacy. Thats part of what you pay to play. The most google is going to do with your information is devise more accurate ways to advertise to you (since thats their bread and butter), be more worried about credit card companies since they are always being breached and sued for selling info.
Okay, supposing that was true: so you're argumenting that since it's possible anyway, you won't do anything to prevent even the most casual attempt at getting your data? That's a ridiculous way of argumenting.
