I had steak and kidney pie a couple weeks ago. I don't really like the kidneys but they are easily removed. I've never had a steak and ale pie. Once I am done with all this school crap I'll be able to start cooking again. Maybe I will attempt one. If you are getting a recipe online, post a link pls.

I found most pub food really bad when I lived there. Haven't thought twice about fish & chips or bangers & mash since I left London - never missed that for one bit.
It depends on the pub, like anything else. My grandfather lived in a tiny village in Dorset and some of the food at the local pub was quite good. I'm sure that some places served some pretty horrible stuff though. English chips are really tops though. The fries we have in north america suck by comparison.

I agree - the average chips in London are... surprise... average. So many places use frozen chips too now. The only redeeming action is to drown them in vinegar, I guess.

Can't say i've experienced that. My grandfather made awesome chips and my father makes them just as well.

Most are disgusting here as well. However, there is one very good place for fish and chips on the water in Half Moon Bay. We went on Saturday, and it whetted my appetite for pub food.

Pub food is like bar food. Great in concept, but frequently bad in execution. Also keep in mind that many pub food experiences are after a few pints of tastebud dulling beer / lager / etc...
When pub food is done right it is the perfect thing in the perfect moment.
