Can anyone direct me to a place to buy suiting wool either online on in NYC? I am having my tailor make me a tuxedo and I am looking to buy a midnight blue barathea with a mohair blend.

I am in NYC so if there is a store that would stock this or someone on this forum that can sell it I would be greatly appreciative.

This question may be better-suited over at cutterandtailor.com although I'm sure somebody here will have an answer for you as well.

If you are in NYC try Mood Fabrics but there are plenty of fabrics stores in the garment district. I suggest going in person this way you get to feel the garment before purchasing it.

You would be better advised to use the correct term - 'cloth' if searching. "suiting wool" is not a term which will be recognised by most search engines or indeed suppliers.

Wool is the raw material not the product.

Huddersfield has an online shop for fabrics from their brands Hardy Minnis, Ham & Winterbotham, Martin Sons & Co - I never bought directly from them but it seems to be possible.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
