Ugh, papers are rubbish these days. Lately I've been picking up various newspapers and news magazines but I haven't found anything that really sticks. I could look around online, but that is usually just as frustrating. There is a lot of appeal in waking up, making a caffeine based beverage of choice, and reading what is happening in the world to get the old noggin running. Clicking around post-google and coming up with nothing but stupid blogs? Less so. Which leads me to my questions and the title of this blog. What are you guys reading to stay current? And why are you reading it?

I read the Wall Street Journal on my Blackberry.

It's free and easy to read on the Subway. Short headlines and snippets of news download periodically, so it's a good way to keep abreast of issues. Occasionally, I'll download articles I find particularly interesting. Most of the financial stuff, I skip over.

I also downloaded readers for the Associated Press and the New York Times, but I found each of their user interface to be irksome.

Bloomberg and BBC news, aswell as CNN to pick up some American news. I tend to look at a broad spectrum of news sources to try to filter out alot of the bias that comes out of each paper and news channel depending on their political views.

I get the Seattle paper and the NYT. The BBC is set as my homepage. If I think of it, I check www.watchingamerica.com. That site carries stories from major international papers that pertain to the US.

I love the BBC. I wish they had a paper.

They have a channel-244(?) here. If you live in the US there is a good chance you get it. They also share almost equal air with many regional NPR stations. In Seattle, it is on from midnight-6am. Not ideal for most people but I have a sleep disorder so I just leave it on all night.

I listen to a BBC radio station all the time. It's sort of depressing that you can find out what is going in in the US better via BBC than any domestic source. Then again, at least a foreign source makes the marginalization of bias easier to swallow.

In the past few months, for such things as the Michael Jackson and Billy Mays (which wasn't even broadcasted in Toronto) death, Styleforum has been a good source for what's happening. Odd, no?
