What Is Your Favorite Spirit?

My initial reaction was Scotch because I've always been a fan, but then I gave it a second thought and realized that it's become good tequila. 100% agave tequila is such a fantastic spirit and it never leads to a hangover (while rye, bourbon and scotch occasionally does) - unfortunately tequila has a brutal image, so people give it short shrift.

Typical Canuck. IIRC, Canada is in North America. Unless they've moved.

But you spelled it with the "e" and listed spirits that, while a whisky, are not the same as Canadian "rye." If you felt Canadian goes under a list of American whiskey, I'll go click that.

Oh, it's not that much, I think I'm at around 150 bottles of spirits/liqueurs these days, including roughly 40 scotches, 15 bourbons, 15 gins, 10 cognacs, 5 rums, etc. 've got the 'fallback' bar for a few SFers these days. I've just started the spreadsheet, maybe will finish it by the beginning of the next semester. Some old pics -- wow, this one's old! Maybe three years now. I've since gotten rid of the junk, and all my well spirits are in 1L's and 1.75's behind the door (Beefeater, Hendricks, Knob Creek, Christian Bros, JW Black, etc), made the bottom shelf another two 750s deeper, added a grappa shelf, etc, etc.

The only recent pic I have is from Friday, but not the whole bar:

Oops. I forgot to put whisky in the North American section...

It's a reposado, but I have no idea if it is any good at all: http://www.likecool.com/Hijos_De_Vil...her--Home.html I also have a bottle of Tommy Guns Vodka: http://www.tommygunsvodka.com/products_old.php Well spirits are pretty much as I mentioned. I once thought I'd have to move into a dorm and take only a token bar with me, for which I had generally figured on the spirits I'd bring -- basically one 'well' spirit, and one good example of each (with a few 'extra' good ones, too, in categories where one 'drinking' spirit is insufficient, along with some necessary mixers and cordials. These days that would look like this: Class: Well, good, extra-good (if there is one) Gin: Beefeater, Martin Miller, Hendricks Bourbon: Knob Creek, Black Maple Hill, ER 17 Scotch: Johnny Black, Oban Distiller's Edition, Royal Lochnagar (Old Malt Cask) Brandy/Cognac: Christian Bros, Ferrand Reserve Rum: Goslings, Zacapa 23 Vodka: Smirnoff Red, Chopin Tequila: Tres Generations Silver, Other: Jameson 12, Leblon Pisco, Calvados, Sazerac 6 rye Cordials/Mixers/Liquers: Cointreau, Maraschino, Creme de Violette, Benedictine, Yellow and Green Chartreuse, Drambuie, Absinthe, Campari, Vya Sweet and Dry Vermouth, Amaretto. Notably missing is a Canadian whisky (maybe I might add some CC), a grappa, and an Amaro -- but those pretty much filled out this locking bar/cabinet thing I designed. Dorms are small. That's my minimalist bar, and part of the post-finals answer I owe you. The rest is coming. ~ H

the scotch you listed in the poll is swill. I prefer a good single malt...if thats not available...a good bourbon. Lifes too short to drink ****** booze.

This is in a dorm??????

You need your own thread. There is far too much to discuss that would hijack this thread completely.

No, not in a dorm. In an earlier post I outlined what I considered a minimum bar (for my standards), which was something I figured out when I planned to go back to school fulltime for a professional degree. I was going to do it on the cheap, so I was going to live on campus and only take essentials with me. Anyway, a number of senior members in who post in the various spirits threads have more serious bars than I. Thanks though! ~ H

I doubt that, yours is immaculate. Really, congrats on putting that together, it is both tasteful and exhaustive.
