I'm going to be getting married this coming April and wanted the attire for the wedding party to be a little bit unique.

The wedding is in Tucson, AZ so I was thinking about wearing a Western-style shirt with a regular gray suit. I don't want anything too crazy looking and don't want to actually buy a western-style suit. I was thinking more along the lines of an interesting pattern sure Also, I will be wearing a regular tie. No bolo ties for me! any thoughts about this look or examples would be greatly appreciated. I know it's a bit outside the box, but was thinking it might be a little bit fun and unique, just like Tucson.

Your message is a little cryptic ha ha. By this do you mean that it's just a bad idea all around?

It was just an idea I had as I am trying to make the formal attire for the wedding party a little bit unique. Some ideas are good, and some are just plain bad.

Well, I would say that wearing a Western shirt with a conventional suit is a questionable mix--with a Western-cut suit, certainly. The thought also occurs to me that most of the distinctively "Western" features of such a shirt--snaps (instead of button), yoke cut, etc., would be concealed under the suit coat and necktie anyway.

You're right about most of the features being hidden under the coat and tie. That was one of the main reasons why thought it might be acceptable as it would really just look like a shirt with a subtle print. The rest of the plan was to have the groomsmen without coats but in matching slacks to maintain a little continuity.

anytime someone wants to look "unique" it will almost* always turn into a disaster.

*see also, the "if you have to ask..." rule

What you were suggesting was not the answer.

Have a super tonal grid or small scale plaid, tailored into a tux, I had a high blue tux made for my wedding last year, and honestly didn't have a full canvas make, went on the lower build with a great fit....knew my fashion tux wasn't going I get the same use as a silk black. You could get a nice conversational suit to mix it up and have the lapel facing deconstructed and replaced with a satin tonal lapel. It's a thought to make something unique, but i think the other guys have it right. To your original point though a western shirt....ehh
