I am getting married in a year...in the fall. It will not be a black tie wedding, but I want to wear a suit that will still leave me standing out as the groom and be both unique and look great. My thought was to wear brown, it being fall. I was thinking a three-piece suit with peak collars might be the way to stand out. Anyone have any advice on either what I should wear or where I should get (or have made) what I want. I am in DC, but am not opposed to a trip to NY for this. As for budget, I haven't decided yet so a range of options from under-$1k to $2k+ would be considered. Thanks all.

Don't get brown. A three-piece brown suit is an oddball item. Between the peaked three-piece and maybe just the pocket square and high-quality brown or burgundy shoes, you would stand out enough.

I would be very annoyed if I had to wear a dinner suit to a black tie wedding only to find that the groom isn't in black tie. You're asking your guests to dress to a certain level of formality in order to attend your wedding; the least you can do is dress as formally.

I'm planning for something similar, but keeping it simple with a conservative, yet slim, navy suit. Depending on our budget at the time, I'd like to get a Thick as Thieves Conservative Cut, but I'll probably end up getting Brooks Bros. on clearance.

I'm in a similar situation. Depending, in part, on the colors selected for the bridal party, I'm planning on going with a three piece suit in either dark gray or navy, and I'm leaning towards gray. There is still an off chance that I'll get a tux, but I just enjoy suits more.

I would avoid the brown. As the groom, I think you want something a bit more distinguished.

This is really bugging me. How do you guys feel comfortable asking your guests to dress up more than you are?

Foo, I think you misread the OP. It is NOT a black tie wedding.

He's not asking anyone to dress formally.

I guess you were too busy sticking pins in your Dan T doll.

By the way, how do I get an invite to read your blog?

I was married two weeks ago. The pics aren't all in yet but here is a decent shot of what I wore. I know I am not showing much cuff here but besides that I think it is ok.

Ok. So, no brown. I am down with that and have been leaning navy lately. I like what I see on the Thick as Thieves website. Does anyone have any experience with them? Quality, fit, etc? I am a big guy, 6'1", 190lbs. Not sure I can pull off the slimmer look, but would like to. Thoughts? Any other labels I should be looking at? I definitely prefer the slimmer look of TaT vs. BB.
