Hello all - I am contemplating a pair of Vass "old english" model shoes on the F last and was wondering how these typically run. For reference, I generally take an 11.5D in US.

thanks for your thoughts.

I am a US 12, and I wear 45.5 in Vass F. I typically wear a European 46, but the Vass people said that F runs big, so I should size down by a half.

I am between a US 11 - 11.5 and I get a 44.5 on the F last. If I were you, I would go for the 45.

Anyone a US 9 C who has a Vass F last shoe? 41.5? 42?

Does anyone know how the R last fits compares to the F last? I realize the R last is not as elegant as the F last, but I wanted to try a pair of brogues on the R last.

It has been posted many times, the consensus is that F runs half size bigger than U. I would get the U in the same size as EG888.

How does the F last compare to the C&J 348 in terms of "sleekness"? For me, the 348 is too long and pointy.

If the F isn't quite like the 348, what would someone w/ a 10 D in Alden's Hampton, or a 9.5 in the Barrie or Van wear in the F?

Hey emptym...I got your pm but I'll just answer here.

The F is a very classic and elegant last, and isn't really comparable to the 348. The U last is the only Vass last that compares with the 348.

I wear a 43 EU in the F and it fits very well. 43.5 in the U last fits even better.

Also, I have a slightly narrow and flat foot and both lasts fit me well. Another option for you to consider is to get a try-on pair from Eiko Trausch (German dealer) or Andrew Harris/Gabor Halmos (US dealers) to ensure the fit is spot on.

This is great help. Thanks so much, william. Perhaps this is of interest to others. A German website has pics comparing a Santoni to a Vass F (or R, the author didn't know) and a New Peter. Top and front views. Interesting to see the difference between the hight and width of the F or R and the New Peter. If someone here can determine if it's an F or an R, that'd be great. Also on this page are pics of 3636 and U last.

I wear a 9/9.5 in Alden and I'm a 41 on the F last.

I have an old english black on the F last in a 41 (MTM) for sale...
