Unstructured Jackets in an office?

Will be working in weather that is too hot for any of my suit jackets or sportcoats, but I do own an unstructured jacket that I bought from Uniqlo a few years ago. It kind of looks like this

And it is a 3-roll-2. I usually wear it with a button down and chinos, sometimes jeans.

I'm working in a business casual environment where I'm going to be wearing a shirt and trousers on most days, maybe a tie every now and then. Would the unstructured jacket be too casual?

You've nailed your work environment as business casual, unstructured jacket should be more formal than just a shirt and trousers.

First of all that's a nice jacket and the environment you described seems just fine for it.

But i think the best way is to see if you get any reactions by wearing it to the office. I used to work at a large corporate law firm and the dress code there was very much 'the nail that sticks down will get hammered down' where as now that I'm in a boutique firm I usually only wear a suit and tie when I know i'm going to be meeting clients, otherwise it's something very similar to what you're describing. The partners do at times find the odd suit jacket and slim chinos a bit too 'young for their tastes' but they're appreciating the generational difference and I would not have gotten away with that at the old place.

Surely that depends on how tall the wearer is...if the OP is 5'0", for example, then a Uniqlo jacket is unlikely to be too short...

For a business casual environment or on a casual Friday, then I think the jacket would be okay. I have a couple that I wear on occasion

My boss did come and remark: the jacket looks pretty fashion.

I work in an office with the same cliche "business casual" requirements and I wear a blazer everyday. And because I work in ATL, they are all unstructured or half lined 100% of the summer.

It's interesting because one of the creative directors in my office once noted on the elevator that my "sense of style was making everyone elevate their game around here". Even more fortunate, my VP said that she "appreciated the fact that I take work seriously enough to wear a sport coat," even when people around me wear jeans and polos everyday.

For the lawyers and bankers of SF that wear suits everyday I'm sure the unstructured SC is blasphemy. However, IMHO, for those of us in the "business casual" realm, a SC of any flavor will make you look like you are taking yourself and your job seriously.

One would hope that somewhere in the course of your 11k posts, you would have learned some stuff about MC. There are different kinds of business casual. There's the "MC" kind that means tailored trousers and dress shirt but no jacket or tie required. The Uniqlo jacket would not fly in those cases. There's also the "SW&D" kind of business casual that means simply no flip-flops or t-shirts. The jacket would be fine there. The point about the shortness of Uniqlo jackets is particularly relevant.
