I'm taking a trip from NYC to Montreal fairly soon and I need to decide whether I will take the train (11 hours and more scenic) or the bus (7-8 hours, but less leg room and less scenic). Thoughts?

Depends on the scenario of the trip, but trains are obviously infinitely more comfortable. I love taking the train and find them very relaxing/pleasurable.

Do you have an option to drive or fly? If not, I would take the shorter means of public transportation. 11 hours on a train is a long time unless it is an overnighter. It also depends on your travel companions.

Dude got decapitated on a Greyhound crossing Canada last year - buses have not seemed a good option ever since

If you sit next to a lunatic on a train you can get up and walk to another seat a lot more easily than on a bus. I go out of my way to avoid bus journeys longer than an hour after the number of ex-cons, religious nutters and tramps I've had to sit next to or too close to on buses.

With a brown bag of booze, either.
