Hello. I've been posting on a few other clothing forums for quite sometime and just recently discovered styleforum.net. I am intrigued at the direction and shape each forum takes and how different the styles and opinions of the members are.

My question to this board is what is your opinion of Trad clothing? Some find it pretentious, while others classic and base their entire wardrobe on it. Please post with your thoughts. Thanks.

Trad is the backbone of my casual wardrobe. I don't know what I'd do without it.

I find it classic and base most of my wardrobe on it. It's where I start from. I wear button down collars and tassel loafers with suits. Trad, Ivy, prep, etc whatever you want to call it.

I think my next purchase may be a 3 btn sack from Thick as Thieves, as a blazer with Waterbury buttons and a crazy lining.

I think that most people here appreciate trad, and a lot of us incorporate it into our style in one way or another (I certainly do.)

What you won't find here much is any particular devotion to the more dogmatic aspects of Trad, nor a great deal of interest in the periphery of Trad that bleeds into the sociocultural realm.

Yeah, I don't think there are any head-to-toe every day trads on SF. Or, not many. But there is a lot of love for the OCBD, shell shoes, flannel, etc.

I call it "non-costume trad."

ivy league = my style.

I can't stand those italian suits and those wide ties.

I don't know how the Trad Forum cannon developed but it seems to be confined mainly to that forum and the occasional J Crew catalogue page.

I think that A Squire is easily one of the best dressed of the guys (across all forums) who post photos with any regularity but a lot of the Trad I see does seem costumey.

I think that to some degree, only the "wilder" outfits get posted. For example, I won't hesitate to wear my lobester shorts with a madras bowtie to some goofy eventon the weekend, and might post a picture for fun. However, this is really not indicative of what I wear almost every day - yesterday I wore a poplin sack suit, tassel loafers, a white ocbd, and a very simple rep tie. Today I'm wearing khakis, a plain blue ocbd, a navy/tan belt, and tan bluchers. I don't consider that "un-trad", in fact quite the opposite. A picture of it might just be a bit boring, so I don't bother.

I would venture to say that this is typical for most posters over there, and I think it gives off the impression that we dress like that everyday - which yes, would be costumy. I highly doubt thats the case for 99% of the people there.

Well said ABC123.

I wear weejuns/alden tassel loafers, khakis with a solid or university stripe OCBD to work every day, but GTH clothing on weekends. I only post my GTH outfits, because anyone can post my work outfits.
