i cannot even imagine eating a taco de trompa with the kind of weather we had yesterday. i was judging kcrw's pie competition -- i did 150 fruit pies, outdoors -- and that was beyond my ability. taco de tromp is great on a cold rainy day, though. just like the tripe milanese from maccheroni republic across the street. can't wait for cold weather.
nice, I was thinking about entering a pie, but never got around to it.

How can you eat 150 pies in a day?

it wasn't easy. seriously, we divided up the labor. i was part of a team with fruit pies, so i only tasted about 80 -- before the final round for best of show and best crust. After a while, you can tell a lot by looking -- if the pastry is undercooked, or the filling isn't set, it's not going to be one of the top 3. but it was 97 degrees. did not feel good that evening.

Went to Ohshima saturday night and it was undoubtedly superb, the best I've had. Blew nana san away for the same price, no brainer since I blacklisted the latter.

I had fish I haven't had before and every piece was prepared deftly by shige san. Highly recommend you guys to go there, I was impressed.

Just went to Nana san a couple weeks ago, which wasn't bad. But Ohshima is definitely better. I need to go back.

Do we have an OC thread? Or should we just dump those thoughts here too.

I've been going to this Belgian cafe on Wilshire (in West LA) recently. They've got great chocolate, coffee and of course… waffles!

Put OC stuff in here, if you can visit one, you can go to the other. It's not like they are neighboring states

Consensus on best sushi in LT? Hama/Sushi Go 55/Sushi Gen? I tend to always go back to Hama because of the wait at Sushi Gen. It feels a bit more affordable also, don't know if that's actually true.

I've only eaten at gen and the wait was stupid but I went at the wrong time, probably wouldn't again for that line but it was good.

sushi gen has the best quality fish imho. hama is my fav because of the ambience and a lot more affordable. my wait at hama is constantly 30 mins and never experienced any significant wait time at sushi gen.

Never knew there was more than one. Just did a quick search and saw the Venice location. Definitely different owners/style of restaurant.
