suit for work or play?

For certain suits that I have, I would not wear them to work simply the cut of the suits are too "slim", revealing all the figure if you know what I mean.

What about you guys? How do you decide whether a particular suit is an appropriate suit for your work or not?

Absolutely, certain suits are inappropriate for certain office environments. I have a black SB Peak lapel Ralph Lauren Blue Label suit that is great for wearing out on the town, but would be inappropriate for the conservative office environment that I work in.

I think in general, for the legal and banking industries, SB peak lapel suits should be avoided. Also depending on where you work, chalk stripes or window panes might be a little too "out there" for a junior employee to wear. Solid gray or blue are safest, followed by their pinstripe variations. I actually don't think that a slim or baggy cut makes much of a difference in terms of "appropriateness," and in fact a suit that is tailored closer to the body looks, to my eye, much better than one that isn't.

Recently there was a long discussion on SF or AA about black suits at the office. I'm in favor of wearing them occasionally, as an alternative to blue or gray. But I'm probably younger than most of the other posters, so this could be a generational thing. I also grew up knowing a lot of people in the entertainment industry, where black is a fairly common choice of suit color for agents, executives, etc.
