Suit for Investment Banking

I was wondering if the suit color on this canali suit was conservative enough to wear in an investment banking position?

It might be easier to see the color of this suit in this pic. It is gray without hints of any other odd color. However, I'm not sure if this gray is a little bit too light for a very conservative industry such as investment banking (actually ib which tends to be more conservative than other departments because they tend to have a lot of client meetings) with a firm that has a reputation for being somewhat conservative?

This looks gray-green to me. Just to be safe, I wouldn't. I would stick to navy and mid-gray to charcoal.

I've had a few investment bankers, in my family. They should have hoped to look as good as the model in this photo. I like the suit, very much. But as I recall, these gentlemen did wear darker, less enigmatic colors.

If that suit is grey, which it appears to be, I don't see why this is a question.

Assuming you'll be in the US and not London, I can't think of many better options.

I know a junior guy at one firm who routinely wears a suit in that color with a lavender pencil stripe without attracting any negative attention. Granted he's in research where they tend to be either very dowdy or fairly flashy but it goes to show that the 'only white shirt, charcoal suit and black shoes for banking' myth that periodically makes the forum rounds is, in fact, just a myth.

Charcoal or very dark navy would be best. You can get a little cheeky with the tie if you want (the Hermes and Ferragamo ties with little cartoon animal patterns, for example).

Thanks for the replies everybody. I posted some new info and a new pic. Any more thoughts? This suit would be really be about the fourth suit after a rotation of a navy suit, navy pinstripe suit, and either charcoal or grey pinstripe suit.

Why not get a patterned (but not striped) medium gray instead? By the way, you need a solid charcoal suit.

I would agree with this in general, however:

if you're still new to your firm, better be a little more conservative than to worry about it. After you run a couple 100 hour weeks, you won't care enough to worry.
