I'm a recovering gadget-freak, and love new technology as much as anyone, but I'm having a real hard time getting my arms around these Bluetooth headsets.

I think they look stupid.

Every time you see somebody use one you feel like you're in the future. At least I do.

Headsets are practical if you're on the phone all the time trying to make a living so you can afford all the good-looking things we love here.

They look a helluva lot better than the first cellphones did.

The other good thing is that people won't stare at me when I start talking to myself - they'd assume I have a headset on the other ear

But seriously though, I have not bought one yet as I am concerned about power consumption and never remembering to get new batteries.

they don't look bad if the person is driving or if they're in their office, but almost everywhere else they look stupid.

I saw this as more of a bridging technology, eventually I think the headset will be the phone for people who just want a barebones cell. In practice I think this has to be one of the most asinine gadgets. It's a wireless device for an already small enough wireless device. You can argue that it allows you use of both hands but so did having the wired headset.

I just use the speakerphone when driving, quite frankly that is usually good enough for me.

How long do you think it will be before wireless iPods/mp3 players become standard?

I personally hate them, but then I hate phones generally. I view them as a necessary evil.

I work on the same floor as a bunch of stock brokers. They wear their conventional headsets whereever they go, including to the bathroom. It's kind of disconcerting.

This is what I want. I can't figure out what's taking them so long to develop it.
