I wish I could see these studies, because chances are these studies were done on different individuals with set caloric requirements for their diets in which case any macronutrient could be substituted for ethanol and the results would be nearly identical.
Besides what's mentioned, why not balance your caloric intake throughout your day and then drink what you like within reason at night. Half of what I enjoy about drinking, is what I'm drinking. To sell-out taste to calories, never worked for me.
That would just be too...rational. We don't buy that crap around here. It's all about finding ways around the natural rules of the universe.
