I'm a college freshmen and I have a formal coming up and I was wondering where I can get those slim/skinny modern looking suits? What brands as well? My budget is $300, but I can up it to $500 if I really like it. I'm looking for style and cut similar to what Josh Duhamel wears on Las Vegas. Thanks for the advice!

Well I went on ebay and looked through a few H&M slim fitting suits. But some sellers told me that i should buy size down meaning I (size 38R) should get a 36R. Is that true and how does H&M slim suit fit? I'm so confused on which size to buy

I personally would not recommend sizing down. I have a suit from H&M and in regular suits I wear a 36 jacket. At H&M I had to get a 38. I hope this doesn't confuse things further.

Btw, who also liked Mads Mikkelsen modeling for H&M?

On topic: I'd also recommend H&M on the lower scale (of everything, price and quality), maybe Zara (pricier but with better styling imho - big hit and miss). If you want something really cool and much better fitting, with all the details you want, TaT would be a good choice (from what I've seen and heard, no personal experience).
But this might be not a good idea if you don't know much about tailored clothing yet.

You should flip through the Thick as Thieves thread here, it will give you a good idea of what kind of stuff they've done for different people.

IME, I would recommend sizing down 1 with H&Ms "slimfit" suit. I am a true 38 and the 36 fits far better. I suppose it depends on what you consider a good fit and how fitted you want it. An H&M 38 looks conservative and a bit stodgy on me...but a 36 has a real sharp silhouette without being illfitting

Can anyone tell me how the Hickey suits fit? I'm a true 40L, but based on the measurements on the site, I'm thinking about a 42L. Any thoughts? The Hickey suits, on sale, might be a good option for the OP.

The suit I ordered from Hickey arrived yesterday. I'm a 38, and I definitely wish I would have gone with a 40. The shoulders were a tad snug. The suit pulled too much when buttoned and the pants were very tight. Keep the 7" drop in mind. The suit is on its way back to hickey right now. I'm not sure if I want to order the 40 or look for a different brand. I hope this helps. Oh, and what measurements did you find on the hickey site?

Whatever your normal size is, size up one. I learned this the hard way myself the first time.
