I understand. I suppose I can skip the medallion but the rubber sole is essential, dress boot or not. During the winter the streets in Sweden are covered with gravel and salt.
I agree with you on the sole. A synthetic sole doesn't look much if at all different from the side (my suede boots pictured earlier are Dainite) so it doesn't make the boot any less dressy in terms of aesthetics. But it does much improve the foul weather practicality. My leather soled footwear doesn't see much use in winter at all.
