Using A Harris' guide I measured an old suit (bought about 10 years ago). It doesn't quite fit anymore; I took a picture of me wearing it and one of the jacket laying flat while I measured it across the chest.

The jackets measurements are; Chest: 22" Shoulder: 20" Jacket Length: 31" Sleeve Length: 26" I'm not sure what size it but if someone can give me advice on what size suit I should be looking at. NP

From the way you have the jacket laying I'd say you would probably get a measurement of 22.5" - 23" if you were to stretch it a bit and measure the full extent of the fabric. Also, the jacket is a bit tight.

The sleeves are a bit long and the shoulders are square so I think you could get away with a sleeve measurement of 25 - 25.5" (with a more natural shoulder the sleeve will drop a bit.)

The length looks fine from the pic although I'd have to see it from a couple of different angles to be sure.

Judging from the information provided so far I'd say you take a 42 regular. But here are couple of questions to make sure:

What does the jacket waist measure between the lower two sets of buttons?

What does your chest measure?? (Underneath the arms and all around, over the pectorals and shoulder blades, body relaxed, - make sure the tape is neither tight nor loose.)

What pant (waist) size do you normally buy?

The jacket you measured seems to be a 41 regular. I think you would best fit a 42 regular - possibly a 43 regular in some makes. Here is the range of measurements that coats that fit you will probably fall within:

Shoulders - 19-20"

Chest - 45-47"

Waist - 42-44"

Length (below collar) - 30.5-32"

sleeves - 25-26"
