Hello, all

I am a newbie to this forum, and would like to know if anyone knows a good shoe that looks similar to the John Lobb Luffield, and Becketts, id like to wear these, but im only a student, so i cant afford to spend 1000USD+ on shoes, but i am willing to spend around 150-175USD maximum.

Please explain as to what a 'last' is also.

Any help from all you shoe experts would be appreciated

Thanks

As much as I like AEs, they're a long way off from Lobb.

Maybe some Loakes? Lesser quality but sleeker styling? The Tywrhitt bluchers from a while back would have been a decent compromise. Or keep an eye on the Buying and Selling Forum and see what turns up there.

Good-quality shoes with the type of styling you're looking for are hard to find at your price point.

It would have been helpful if you posted pics of the shoes you like, but I would suggest looking for Grenson Masterpieces or the ones branded "Stuarts Choice". I have purchased about 4 pairs on ebay in the neighborhood of $250 per pair.

Agree with Doc - do NOT by Allen Edmonds if you like Lobb styling. I would look for Brooks Brothers Peal shoes on EBay (made by Alfred Sargent). Also look for Shipton and Heneage sale shoes (again, rebadged Alfred Sargent shoes). I'd also suggest you keep an eye out for Ferragamo Tramezzas on deep discount/used. Also check for deals on Polo shoes on Ebay - look for "Made in England" - http://cgi.ebay.com/New-POLO-RALPH-L...QQcmdZViewItem If you truly max out at 175 USD, things do get tougher, but you can usually make something work if you are patient...

Guess I didn't see the $175 issue. In that case I would also consider Charles Tyrwhitt using the 50% off coupon.

thanks for the all the replies!

The shoes that I like out of the John Lobb range are the same that are worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, and are pictured below

Thank You all, and what are your opinions on RM Williams boots? I bought a pair a while ago and I think they are rather good.

The 2-eyelet being the Luffield and the 4-eyelet being the Becketts

I think they are pretty good for the price. Then again I am going to say that aren't I

However, ultimately you still get what you pay for. As far as Chelsea boots go a pair of RMWs is probably the closest you will get to top shelf on a beer budget. If you went bespoke I think you could still get something better. I have also seen RTW Chelseas from JL with some lovely antiqueing on them - pity they aren't wholecuts though.

Otherwise, you are not the only one around here pining for a pair of Lobbs and G&Gs for $175.

You could also try New and Lingwood. I got a used pair of balck monk straps on eBay for about $60 and they have a Lobb-ish look to them.

i think you'll have to spend more than 175 dollars for a pair of shoes. I would definitely save a little more, and buy a pair of allen edmonds, probably the classic captoes. remember that good shoes like allen edmonds can be resoled and re-crafted by the company after years of wear, so they look like new again.

Not sure if you'll find bluchers, but get some of the Crockett & Jones (branded as Polo Ralph Lauren) shoes on the 337 last from Grapevinehill.com.

Agree - at that price point, that makes sense. Check out Emling as well
