I'm looking for a style advice for my second suit (I already have a navy color one, now need something different) for a wedding occasion in December in New York. My budget is up to $1,500.

Specifically, here's what I'm looking for:

1) color scheme of suit, shirt and tie (or where to get this type of advice)
2) material
3) vendor in Bay Area (California) like suit supply or enzo

I'm inclining on the black or dark grey color, but open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance! :)

Avoid black at all costs.

I guess I’d go dark gray. But I greatly prefer navy over gray. I own more navy suits than anyone in their right mind should. Mostly solids too, some stripes. I only like gray suits with stripes usually.

If you have a navy suit already, a charcoal or mid-gray will be your best bet for a second suit. Avoid black. If you have 1 navy and 1 gray suit you’re basically set for whatever you may need a suit for (weddings, funerals, important meetings, etc.). Both of these suits should be made of 100% wool (avoid polyester and other synthetics).

If you have those two suits you cant go wrong with white or light blue cotton shirts (spread or point collar, depending on your preference) and grenadine ties (in navy, burgandy, green). Also, make sure you have a pair of leather oxford dress shoes in black and/or very dark brown.

If youre spending up to $1,500 I’d recommend checking out The Armoury, No Man Walks Alone, Berg & Berg, Sid Mashburn, Natalino, and Spier & MacKay.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice.

I managed to get this one - SARTORIA CASTANGIA Dark Gray Striped Wool Super 190's Suit EU 50 NEW US 40

Now I need to alter it :)

Could you recommend a decent tailor in Bay Area, who could do it quickly and does not cost an absolute fortune?

Another is Central Tailor & Alterations in Mountain View.

Ali is a third generation tailor from Turkey. His English is not very strong, but he is fast, clever and has a decent eye for fit. He is very reasonable.

It will take some work on your part - communication-wise, but in my opinion, worth it.
