In 7 days I turn 40 and my wife has asked me the dreaded question of what should she buy me. I am terrible to shop before because if I want something I usually go out and buy it.

I have the wardrobe but haven't had much interest in a watch. This evening I changed my mind. I thought it would be perfect to buy a Rolex from my birth year, 1973 so that when I look at the time I am reading it off a time piece that has been around as long as I have.

So my question...where is the best place to buy a 1973 Rolex and not buy a knock off?

Try Gray & Son, in South Fl. I think that they are located at Bal Harbor...

You might want to check out this Vintage Rolex Collectors forum, one of the largest of its sort: http://vintagerolexforum.com

If you have found a potentially interesting Rolex you can post pictures of it there before you purchase it, the members will pick even the best of fakes or tinkered with Rolexes apart promptly. The said site also has a collectors market, if you choose to purchase from a collector use you due diligence, because there are always some scammers amongst the genuine collectors.

Found my 1973 Rolex on bob swatches....went to purchase it and it sold earlier today. Out of all the rolexes, someone bought the 1973 model. I am not a happy birthday boy!
