Pretty odd jacket measurements — can this be correct?

I’ve never considered myself a particularly disproportionate body type but my jacket measurements seem quite odd. I’ve gone to a tailor and suitsupply and both measured me, put me in jackets, and both arrived at a 36L. My fiancée is shocked and she works in costuming and fashion ha. She says I “look like a classic 38R”.

I’m 5’11”, 165lbs. I have a 32” inseam so I suppose my legs are maybe a touch short for my height? But not really? I know I have a somewhat narrow body/shoulders but again, nothing that looks too odd. I’m a 30/31” waist, so again not all that wild.

Does a 36L make sense? Is anyone else here similar size and measurements?

Do the jackets look good on you ? That's the only thing that matter. Size labels vary between brands and can be confusing.

I am 5'10, 145 lb and I'm generally a 36R in most brands including Suitsupply. I will say that SuitSupply associates do tend to put people into jackets one size too small, so it's quite possible that you are in fact a 38R. There shouldn't be any pulling or tightness in the jacket. You say you have narrow shoulders so that could possibly be a factor.

At 5'11" you may be on the border of needing a long size. I know at 5'10" some R jackets are on the short end of acceptable for me. How does it look -- the jacket should cover your rear and roughly bisect your body. Also note that SuitSupply jackets come with working sleeve buttonholes, so the sleeves have to be close to the correct length.

Don’t get caught up in the label size. I’m 6’ tall and I wear a Short in SuitSupply. Go for fit.
