Guys, again, many thanks for the help so far as I try to modernize somewhat from fogey-dom. I am trying to update my casual look without looking like a pathetic forty something trying to look like a college kid. I have a closet full of shirts. Most are dress shirts for wearing with suits and jackets (T&A, Hilditch, etc.). For casual shirts I have some polo basics with the horse guy, a drawer full of Bobby Jones golf shirts, some Burberry button downs, a couple Canalis, Isaias, etc. What should I be looking at for shirts to go with khakis and jeans that would be cooler, but not too cool? Sizing wise, I am 6' 2, 200 lbs., have around a 47 inch chest, wear 34 or 36 waist jeans. For frame of reference Abercrombie and Fitch tees (which I confess to liking) are way too small, even in XXL. Thanks! Don't want to look like I'm squeezed into the shirt, but don't want billowing either.

for a quick fix, i would suggest secret wash shirts from j. crew, other brands to check out:"workaday" by engineered garments or RRL, and gitman bros. or gant rugger.

Those are some crazy measurements.

J.crew/BR casual shirts would probably be okay.
I've been liking gitman bros recently, they always nail the plaids.
RRL button downs? (mauro sells em)

The measurements are odd? I look pretty average. I have been a 46L for about the last six years, but over the past year have lost around 25 lbs. The jackets still fit pretty well, but the pants are useless now.

You must be pretty muscular for your chest to be 46 and your pants to be 34. That's quite a big difference.

My good man, I would thoroughly suggest you to Made to Measure - even for casual OCBD's or casual shirts.

Some people just dont fit RTW that well. If that's you, then go MTM, it will be the best decision you have made with shirts in some time.

I would reccommend looking at CEGO shirts in the Men's clothing section - he is a forum affiliate, tried tested and true, has a internet MTM service and has some form of styleforum discount.

A pleasure.

Yeah, I really think people don't use MTM here. If you find a good shirtmaker, you can work with them to do what you want.

Get some Corozo nut buttons, or some antique Melamine buttons. You can get decent fabric around, probably not as good as what you will get RTW, but the fit is the main thing that your paying for.

Get the hem cut shorter, gussets if you want them, button on back of neck (OCBD) etc etc.

Really, the details are up to you. If Gitman doesnt fit me well enough I'll be sticking with MTM.

It can be hard to get specific fabrics in MTM though, especially good oxfords. Acorn fabrics can help with that, though they don't have grey / charcoal oxfords, or washed reds if you take what hyrcollectives marsupial-with-a-colour-wheel approach to summer colours to heart.

It's funny how being a special flower only applies to junior members.

I think there are fewer senior members than there are junior members, especially with easily searchable questions. If you stick around for a while and contribute, you seem to get some leeway.

It's weird, because I'm not really overly muscular at all! I'm in shape, which is about as far as it goes. I think the girth I have is in the shoulders or back or something, because I have no "pecs" to speak of at all. Didn't think I was drawing attention at all on that score!

Great ideas, guys. Thanks so much. I have plenty of information already.

BTW, I did try on some Seven For All Mankind shirts today at Saks and, on me at least, they looked like pajama tops. Kind of floppy collars, very sheer fabric. Not for me at all, at least the ones they had.

I think Engineered Garments /Workaday would be too small. I have a 44 chest, and ta XL shirt is just right.
J.Crew should be good though, probably a size xl. I agree with Gant being a good suggestion aswell, you´d probably fit into an XL.

For those suggesting Gitman, isnt that a really tight fit?
