New to raw denim, looking for recommendations for 2-3 pairs

Sorry if this isnt the best place for this, since these forums lend more towards overall style then raw denim but... At the moment I have a small collection of designer denim mainly from chip+pepper and j lindeberg with a few others mixed in, but just now Ive got a little more into it and searching around the net and have found a few forums;

Basically, Im looking to buy 3 pairs of raw denim to rotate through for a while and see what happens. Ive been looking mainly at Nudie Jeans recently, but I would also like to get one more pair from a different brand, but now just looking for recommendations on particular styles. Probably looking to consider 2 pairs of Nudies and two pairs of alternate brands.

The only issue with me is that I need the size to be around 18" at leg opening, to 17 at the knee breaks, since even though my waist is 31 or 32, i have larger legs then most.

Huge thanks for any recommendations, I have searched and I have a few in mind right now, but dont really have the sizing info on any except one.

I think Regular Ralfs are a great, versatile and flattering (as well as forgiving) cut.

Sorry I just noticed you said you were looking at other brands from Nudie.

I have a pair of Earnest Sewns Fultons that are a good all-round jean as well.

I didnt mean to make it sound like that. Im looking to get suggestions for nudie and other brands, just saying Ive mainly looked at nudie so far, and from the nudie jeans, I definitely think the ralf will be one of the pairs. I was also looking at straight sven in dry selvage, but wasnt sure if they were too slim.

Checking out the fultons, they do seem a little slim for me, but thanks a lot for the suggestions.

i tend to believe that samurai's jeans are rather flattering, even in a baggier cut

Samurai s5000vx (straight cut) is a good all around japanese selvedge jean, the waist size you mentioned has a slightly smaller leg opening than what you prefered

Iron Heart 634s, Kiya has raved about those on superfuture, and they are a great, long lasting, superbly cut, pair of jeans, JPGM has a pair on here if you can find one of his pictures

Sugar Cane 1947 might also be right up your alley, sugar canes jeans tend to have more room in general when compared to more popular choices on here i.e apc new standard, dh 19cm/21cm etc etc.

I'll second the Kicking Mule recommendation, but alter it slightly to suggest the 2010 cut since you want an 18" leg opening. Awesome, awesome quality. 5EP boot cut could be a possibility, too, but may be a bit too slim. Why not post your thigh measurement so everyone can get a better idea as to how big your legs actually are?

and as for measurements, Ive never been tailored for anything, so i tried to myself. at the "leg opening" it came to 22", above the knee it was 18". But that really didnt sound right.
I just bought a pair of Nudie Jeans Regular Ralph in Premium 32x34 listed as 18 at the leg opening and 18 at the knee, and they fit great.

I second these, all great jeans. I also recommend the Samurai S0510 model, which is now called "Samurai Relaxed Fit" at Blue in Green. The heavier denim weights (19 or 21 oz) are interesting and worth a look as well.

I still say a Nudie Regular Ralph is really tough to screw up on. The fit is so versitile and so easy to do well. You're best off going true-to-waist and just wear a belt.

After that, check out:

APC New Standards (Really, the Rescue is going to be too baggy is you're a 31/32. Rescue is for bigger guys, even if you have bigger thighs. Just size down 2.)
Skull 5507 (Pretty nice cut and will probably look good on you if you go true-to-size)
Imperial King (Perfect for guys who want a slim jean but have big thighs)

I will give another vote for the Regular Ralf (now Alf). I would not, however, spend the money for the dry selvage version. I just got the Dry Japanese version, and I think they're great. I don't really see $90 of advantages to them. Given your criteria, here's what I'd get:

Regular Alf Dry Japan
5EP LDB in ridgid
APC Rescue
KMW 1950 (if you like low back pockets)
Rag & Bone RB6 (if you like higher pockets/dressier denim)

That's all assuming price is no object. If price is important, I'd skip the last two, the first three should do well for you.

hahaha i have to agree with you here, i got regular ralf nudies in dry selvage, luckily from revolveclothing, i got 30% off off them which came to about the price of japan ones, and to be honest, i think the only difference is a little in color.... i have yet to see a benefit for selvage

but yea regular ralfs are great.. but imo i would say i shoulda got average joe or something, i mean RR are great fit but i dont like bootcut too much cuz it tends to drag the floor

Nudie RRDS gets looks and compliments all the time. I get jocked for my RB6s a lot too. The RB6 are money bro. Once you see them you will be so satisfied. Everything from the fit, to the blue-purple shine to the new smell will impress you. Just get them a size down from your usual.
