New SF member and not sure where to find the answer you're looking for? Have a quick question that doesn't belong in a current thread? Welcome, you found the right place.

This is a new weekly thread where new and old users alike can ask a quick question and get a solid answer. If a thread already exists that would be more helpful, we will point you in the right direction. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.....so ask away!

Hello All,

I have seen a few threads on here for where luxury shoes are made in Civitanova in Italy, but there are no answers to these questions.

It’s pretty obvious why, so maybe someone who has the knowledge can let me know. My Sneakers are being made in China and although they are good I want them to be the best that they can be.

I would like to know where Buscemi and Balenciaga have their shoes made.

Private message me if you will I will be so grateful for the help.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I've been looking at various luxury brands of shoes lately (sneakers & boots) because I'm sick of having to replace my NB's every 3~4 months or so.

I walk a lot for my work and I'd like to hear your opinions of some brands that make high quality shoes that will maintain their sole and cushioning for a good long while. I don't sprint or even jog in these shoes so I like to think I'm not abusing them too hard. I'm preferring to stay away from military style/hardcore reinforced boots that are super heavy, as they wouldn't really work for me in my workplace.

I live in San Francisco and have been trying on some shoes from McQueen, Ferragamo, Allsaints, Prada, Camper, and some others.

So far I've narrowed it down to either a pair of boots from Allsaints or a pair of sneakers from Ferrgamo, and I'm waiting on an order of shoes from McQueen to try on at their store. I've also been looking at Louis Vuitton but haven't had the time to try their shoes yet.

Could you guys tell me about some high-quality brands that I've missed or some specific shoes & boots you guys have had good experiences with in terms of wear length?

How are your shoes wearing down? Is it the sole or the cushioning?

Luxury shoes are not generally more durable, but if you want a sneaker that has a long lasting sole, I'd look for something on the very popular Margom Serena sole, which is very durable. The prices vary greatly between brands, but Epaulet makes some for a fairly decent price: http://epauletnewyork.com/collections/footwear/Sneakers

I don't know exactly where Buscemi or Balenciaga get their shoes made, but the easiest way to find out is to look up their bills of lading. There are a lot of factories in Italy and Portugal that do this type of work. A little bit of sleuthing, and you are all set.

The cut, wash, and color, particularly the cobalt blue of the first picture, all remind me a lot of Seven for all Mankind jeans. They really don't look great though, and there are a lot better jeans out there...

AG jeans and Citizens of Humanity also use similar washes (even wash houses), so you might try those as well.

Generally around the time the cushioning begins to become totally flat and not a cushion anymore, I'll have worn into the midsole. Then I replace the shoe.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by they're not usually more durable? I imagined since they are made of higher quality natural materials (not synthetic), they would wear better and longer.

Thanks for that recommendation though! Unfortunately, Epaulet doesn't have my size in stock right now. Would I be able to find their shoes in any physical stores on the west coast to try on? Boots are fine too, but they need to be lightweight and not reinforced military style boots.

If you wear sneakers hard, and walk a lot, and it sounds like you do, there is a lifetime on any pair of soles. After all, you are walking on pavement. That said, that Serena Margom sole is about as tough as a sneaker sole gets. Epaulet only sells from their NYC stores

Luxury shoes are simply not more durable.

If you want a pair of shoes that will last a long time, and have decent cushioning, get something that can be resoled, and easily. I would recommend a pair of welted shoes on a vibram wedge sole, which can be easily replaced, and is generally comfortable for walking. You can use a removable insole if your feet need it.

Okay, what you're saying makes sense. I'm so stuck in the mindset of rebuying shoes every so many months I've forgotten about shoe repair. It's not something I've ever really done, I don't even know any cobblers.

When you're talking about a welt shoe with a vibram sole, do you mean something like this?: http://www.highsnobiety.com/2015/03/09/visvim-virgil-boots-crepe-folk-2/

I know I saw some of those welted shoes at Allsaints, so I'll go check them out again.

Welcome to the forum, trap. Sorry man, I know you said it's Versace, but I have no idea what collection it's from. No experience with Versace whatsoever. Maybe Kanye will chime in.....

You might try Simon Miller or Rag&Bone, both of which do decent washed jeans, imo. Personally, I like to wear in heavier weight jeans, but that's not for everyone.
