Navy Windowpane Suit

Any thoughts on a navy suit with a light windowpane? My initial thought is that it is too informal for most business situations? For the record, I would be wearing it in court or in meetings with clients.

By light do you mean color? Or do you mean that the lines are "fine." I think that a fine line windowpane -- particularly in a color other than white (tends to be more subtle) -- is perfectly acceptable for business. If I were arguing in front of a jury, perhaps I'd want to go with something a little more "everyman." But certainly acceptable for normal business atire. I personally like a subtle glen plaid with an overpane, but an ordinary windowpane can be good too.

For clarification, by light I mean both color and scale.  I have a grey suit with a wonderful subtle blue windowpane that I love.  However, the idea of windowpane on navy seems more extreme to me.  Perhaps it is my lack of style courage.

It probably seems more extreme because the windows are easier to see on a darker background. If you don't feel comfortable in it, I'd say don't buy it. No matter how good it looks objectively, you won't look good in it if you display an aura of self-conciousness wearing it.

I love windowpane fabric in suits/jackets. I think it could be OK if it very subtle; the clients are not ultra-conservative; the clients are not prospective/new clients.

There are senior officers in my office who wear windowpane blazers and suits on occasion. I would bet thought that they are wearing them when they don't have important meetings that day.

Seriously, I have no fear of wearing it to the office. But as windowpane goes, it is sort of subtle. The check is light gray and sort of fuzzy. Not eye-popping at all.

I've a navy with lighter blue windowpane DB made from Holland & Sherry cloth. You only see the pwindowpane in the right light - it's a very conservative suit.

I've got a navy (cashmere) DB suit by Kiton where the royal blue window-pane is so subtle that if you're eye isn't within an inch or two of the fabric, you'd swear it was a solid color... perfectly acceptable.

I wear a brown with windowpane twice a week. As said, no eye-popping and it is acceptable. Keep the shirt and tie combo very sutle and you will be one of the best dressed in court.
