Med School Interview: Suit Color

Thinking ahead, I have two suits, a jet black one and a dark tan one. Which one would is recommended for a med school interview? I also came up with a crazy idea of wearing the dark tan jacket with black pants and shoes, good idea? It looks quite sharp when Googling, but maybe too casual.

The default answer, and one that will be reiterated over and over here, is that navy is the best choice, followed by charcoal. Of the two you have, black is most appropriate. If you can manage, however, go out and get a navy suit.

If you're going to mix them, better off to wear the black jacket with the tan pants than the other way around, but still better to wear the suit.

I'm curious, would you agree that, if he cannot afford a new st, that his black suit is better? Obviously navy is better, and worth the investment.

Drole. I think colour in the shirt and tie could alleviate that misperception. And the reality is that many men wear black suits, often on purpose to events other than funerals. He might not look the best of all the candidates but he will not be conspicuously poorly dressed, merely averagely dressed. The black suit says "this applicant may not wear suits a lot, and may not yet know all the basics, but he has put on his best one for the interview," while the unbusinesslike tan says "this guy thinks he is at a summer wedding." Don't misinterpret this as wavering. I am still staunchly in favour of a navy suit, but I also recognize it may not be possible on juanitofootbol's budget.

Don't mix and match the tan and black; you will notably stand out (this is coming from someone who has been through med school, residency, fellowship interviews). Everyone else will be wearing navy or some shade of grey. I would do the same. I think that black, while not first choice, would be fine. I would not wear the tan.
