Measuring for a leather jacket

I'm looking to buy a leather jacket(possibly on the internet), but I'm having a hard time figuring out my size and how it should fit.

I've come across a few guides about it, but they seem geared towards measuring for a suit jacket. Like this one for example: http://www.gpuniforms.com/apages/how_to_measure.html . Is measuring for a suit jacket pretty much the same thing as for an outerwear jacket? Could I use that guide to get good measurements for a leather jacket?

I'm also very unsure about the length of the jacket and the length of the sleeves. Most of the models i've seen have the sleeves come down to the very top of the thumb. I've tried on jackets that fit me like that, but when i stick my arms forward, the sleeves come up pretty far and it looks kinda like frankenstein. Is it okay if that happens with the sleeves?

As far as the jacket length goes, is there a rule of thumb as to how far a jacket should come down? I guess it might depend on the style, but is it... fashionable to have a jacket as short as say this guy:

the jackets i wear all come down to at least halfway down my pants fly, maybe a little more. his is like... you could probably see his belt if he didn't have his shirt hanging out like that.

And is it cool to have your shirt hanging out of your jacket like that? i generally try not to because I think it looks a little bit like a skirt, but how could you avoid it with a jacket that short? tucking your shirt in isn't cool, so that's an option.

If you look, they have plenty of nice leather jackets as well as the jacket you've linked to, Hard2Fit. That one isn't indicative of anything.

I'd recommend to get a hold of a friends jacket or something, that fits you good, and then take the measurements off of that. Leather can be real tricky, depending on brand and how you'd like for it to fit. Perhaps you could go out window-shopping, and just carry a measure-tape with you hehe.

I'm lucky cuz i have one in my dream fit

Just get one in the normal size you'd get any piece of casual outerwear, i.e. small, medium, large

Then take it to a solid tailor who can alter leather jackets. That's what I did to have my sleeves taken up. I love the result.

Here's how it fit prior to shortening the sleeves (I've since removed the tag

so, was she like some kinda spammer shill for megasuits.com? does that happen a lot around here? i totally checked the site out anyway tho

also, just to reiterate my main question: if i were to go to a tailor and get measured for a suit, could i use those measurements to figure out my size for an outwear jacket?
