I buy Selvedge jeans for £140 (LVC 1967 505) and I've been very happy with them to be honest, they fit well and last a long time. Maybe a bit too entry level for the real denim enthusiasts but a good staple pair of jeans.

I also like Champion Reverse Weave sweats, affordable and proven designs

Like yourself I'm a cheap T Shirt guy, I got burnt a couple of times with expensive ones and just not worth the outlay, Uniqlo are the best budget T-shirts I've tried (the heavy weight version). Everything I have bought from Sunspel has shrunk to the point of being unwearable inside a year!!
For me, the primary purpose of a t shirt is to absorb grime, stains, odors and bodily fluids, or to be worn around my apartment.
I have a few pairs of $300+ selvedge denim. They are well worth it.

Dressy clothing as an "investment" is a type of trick I think people pull on themselves to try to justify buying expensive items.

I think people are happier when they give up this mindset and admit they buy expensive things because they want them and it makes them happy.
I tend to agree with this sentiment that people will purchase emotionally and then justify it logically, but I will say that a good suit for business meetings is an investment more than it would be otherwise.

I sometimes fool myself into thinking I would love to wear smarter T shirts during summer and on Holidays, and I have tried a few supposedly "high end" brands, just never found one that justified the high price tags. Admittedly I've never tried any of the fancy Japanese ones though as the measurements are always too short for me. I've even considered a few MTM T shirts but can never pull the trigger even at £35 (don't like the split hem)

I can order 5 for £75 from Uniqlo, and although they aren't going to set the world on fire, in 18 months time I will be wearing them for gardening or vehicle repair and soaking up the sweat and grime just like you (and Steve, and Marlon) ?
