So this is the non-extreme-close-up photo of the jacket you posted, followed by a photo of the sleeve & cuff.

And it does appear smoother and more uniform from that perspective.

I've been getting some good information over at The Fedora Lounge concerning variances in HH that has been helpful. It sounds like the cracked jerky look is expected and desired from certain manufacturers, and dependent on many factors including tannage.

Speaking of FCL, why does Fedora Lounge hate them so much? I started to discount what they were saying a bit when I saw that most fit pics over there have their sleeves down to their knuckles...

I've been thinking of picking up a FCL Leon for a little while now and see that they are now offering the Leon in a 1.3mm (below) leather versus the usual 2.0mm.

Does anyone have any idea of how the leather and feel would differ based on thickness and which I should consider? Once we get out of tailoring my knowledge is limitied so apologies if this is a dumb or obvious one lol. The 2.0mm is out of stock everywhere but I'm fine waiting.

I don't know, speaking personally though, I like FCL but this pic makes me cringe with discomfort. I can't fathom how those armpits and that chest can be feeling good. Do they have a super high armhole or something? Length is great, so are the sleeves and the shoulder seam placement, but, christ, would it kill them to open that armhole a bit and loosen up the upper arms? I could never see myself going from my relaxed but not sloppy jackets to a fit like that.

I have the LeonNostar and have tried the new 1.3mm version. I believe the arms look like that because of the way the jacket is cut. It’s uncomfortable wearing the jacket zipped up because the front of the jacket is cut to “lean you forward”. When you stand up straight with it zipped up the chest is pulled back and looks constricting towards under the armpit. I know it’s hard to explain this without any visuals, but I think the way this jacket is cut when zipped up takes time to break in.

Looking at the listing, he describes it as a “fast fader”. Amazing how much brown shows through in just six months of wear.

My RMC shinki jacket does not fade quickly at all.The leather ages nicely as in forms creases quickly but doesn’t lose the pigment like that FCL.

Wonder what FCL does differently.

I'm new to the niche leather game, but for my part I'm glad to hear that your RMC doesn't fade as aggressively as above. I'd like some time between the initial appearance of my RMC A2 and it looking like jerky, although I will be sure to pose for many McQueen-esque photos when it does.

I'm assuming you are not new to this, but for the general inquiry of what makes different HH (or different hides in general) different, there were some opinions stated here: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/thr...rsehide-appearance-color-handfeel-etc.103497/

I'm assuming with this FCL it's a combination of the tannage and the dyeing, as well as the aggressive/persistent wear of the user.

dude TFL is very knowledgeable but they aren't big on "fit". Ive seen a lot of really awfully fitting jackets there.

Its a great jacket the pic doesn't do it justice. @UrbanComposition has good fits, see below.

They're also not very big on, shall we say, a diversity of opinion.

There is a thread over on TFL of a guy who is soliciting opinions on the fit of his jacket, an Aero Aeromarine. The responses are very flattering. Frenkly, though, the thing is awful, absolutely awful. I could care less what your particular style orientation is, that fit shouldn't receive a compliment.

Interestingly, there is another thread which is quite intteresting and helpful, depending on how one looks at it. A thread devoted to what people whould have done differently with their first Aero purchase from the hindsight of having all the experience behind them. Suprisingly, for TFL, there are many posters who, in hindsight, would have had nothing to do with Aero had they known then what they know now.

It's an intteresting discussion about patterns and how, notwithstanding actual measurements of a jacket, it can be cut in a way that just hangs differently than other jackets and distributes weight on your body differently.

I've often wondered why certain jackets of mine settle on my body differently than other jackets even though the measurements are virtually identical.

And I agree that that FCL on urbancomposition is very flattering... so much better than that store's model wearing it.
