After perusing the Colhay’s website, I recently purchased a crew neck that fits perfectly. This will not be my last purchase from them. It is high quality, great value, and slim fit (usually hard for me to get without tailoring).
One thing interesting on the website is that each item’s page lists extensive details on the materials and construction.
Example page with for the superfine wool crew neck that I bought: https://colhays.com/products/superfine-lambswool-crew-neck-in-navy
“A sturdy crew neck sweater made of 100% superfine lambswool from Todd & Duncan's prestigious Lamaine range, regarded as the world's softest lambswool…
Quality of fibre: 100% superfine lambswool of the highest quality, sourced from a special breed of South African sheep. Fibre diameter is c. 18.5 microns, making this the world's finest, softest lambswool (most lambswool averages 21 - 24 microns). Fibre length is c. 42mm - the longer staple length keeps the sweater in shape and avoids pilling.
Quality of yarn: 1-ply superfine lambswool yarn (same thickness as 2-ply cashmere yarn) produced by spinners Todd & Duncan at their Loch Leven Mill in Kinross, Scotland, industry heavyweights who have been spinning yarn for 150 years - world renowned for their consistently high quality and strong yarns.”
What is this “Lamaine lambswool”? I have not seen this noted on other sites. Staple length seems ridiculously long for wool. And 18.5 microns does not feel scratchy on the skin.
Definitely I like the concept of “Lamaine” specs. Do other brands also use this and call it something else? It is both soft and durable. This seems like a great value, but also I am an engineer and a sucker for detailed technical specs.
