Knee socks for track?

I wear them for track at high school, see photo below. They are comfortable, some teammates also wear them. Do you think they look good?

My girlfriend says they go well with the shorts and she suggested wearing a pair of ankle socks on top, she likes this layered look. Anyway they improve cushioning, which really helps. Do you like this knee high and ankle socks combination?

And what about the ankle socks of a different colour worn over them? Not so common around here, but she says they look cool like that.
