Can any forum member positively ID that this is an RLBL sweater? If it is it must be from the 2005 or early period.

Anyway, ran a search on the forum and didn't come up with anything. Hope you can help.

Thanks

Well, I don't see anything at the moment to indicate that it's not an RL Black Label sweater.

Looks like it is a fake according to a great post by FrankDC on the AAAC forum:

This week I've been corresponding with Ralph Lauren, regarding the glut of counterfeit RL merchandise that is posted on a daily basis on eBay. I sent them a list of what I believe to be common elements for spotting these fakes, and they responded by confirming the list as valid. So I'd like to share it with the group:

1. Cashmere v-neck sweaters with a Pony logo (authentic RL cashmere v-necks aren't logoed, although many of their wool and lambswool crewnecks are). These fake RL sweaters also have a slightly wider ribbing around the neck compared to authentic RL v-necks.

2. Large square or nearly square white hangtags with a large black or dark blue pony logo on the front center (authentic RL hangtags do not have large pony logos). These same tags are being used on both fake RL sweaters and fake RL polo shirts.

3. Neck tags with all three of these elements: a RL pony logo on the left side, "Polo" (with no box around it) printed just to the upper right of the logo, with "Ralph Lauren" printed below and slightly to the right of "Polo". Again, these same fake tags are being used on both sweaters and polo shirts.

4. Many, but not all sellers of this counterfeit merchandise on eBay are based in China, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, Denmark and Italy.

As always, caveat emptor. Before bidding on RL (and, BTW, Tommy Bahama) merchandise, read the seller's feedback to determine if any reports of fake goods have been reported by previous buyers.

Hope this helps others!

The sweater at question is a fake, it has been around for years.

Besides all the other reasons it is fake,

RL Black and Purple lines are separate from Polo and wouldn't incorportate the Pony logo. Rather RALPH LAUREN is used in block letters in Black Label and in script in Purple Label and I've never seen a variation from that.
