I'm an accountant and I want to volunteer/intern where I get to help people

I'm an accountant doing audit at a regional firm. It's an internship that may end in the next month, and in my time off while studying for the CPA exam and looking for 'real' jobs I'd like to volunteer/intern with an organization I believe in.

I tend to like organizations that are controversial like Planned Parenthood, gay/alternative lifestyle organizations, etc.

Ideally I'd like to help clients of these organizations with money management, financial planning, resume and interview help, etc. Basically advice I can give as an accountant who is passionate about saving money and avoiding materialism. I could also see assisting patients at health care clinics or eye surgery centers with billing and paying for health procedures.

Any ideas? I live in San Diego if that narrows it down. Thanks guys,

Your skills are sorely needed at many non-profits. At first, be really narrow in what you want to offer, that will help you find an organization/cause you are passionate about and then you can expand from there.

I would suggest just googling different causes you are passionate about and seeing what local results come up. I would also look for volunteer centers that place people and online services which match volunteers with organizations and events based in San Diego.
