I found that my most expensive items end up being the most used, not because they were expensive, but because I bought them at full price, at a reputable store to fill an important need. Conversely, stuff that I bought because they were on sale end up being poor investments.

I think I am moving in this direction. The totally of that process - price, cut, need, wardrobe context - makes for some kind of quality control. And when you do not need any more clothes, a sale opportunity is not a good opportunity for you. That said, and primarily from my eBay adventures, I have learned to appreciate cloth quality. And I have found a high quality and low prices item can be declassified into a normal garment. But then we are below and beyond the standards here!

For me, when buying online it's a crapshoot. Even if I love the aesthetic and the design choices that were made with the clothes, I can never tell if it'll fit the way I like it to or if it actually works well with the clothes I wear.

If it's in person and I'm shopping for necessity, then I find I'm fairly consistently on the mark. But man does it take a ton of time figuring out what I don't like to know what I do like enough to wear on a regular basis.
