Hi all,

I've been lurking on here for a little while and I've picked up alot of good tips and finally decided to create an account. I need help with a shirt/tie combination for a new suit I just bought. I really wanted a brown suit so I have a nice pair of cognac wingtips to go with it but stumped on the shirt and tie. Here is the suit I bought:

with a close up to get a better look

Moving this to the Menswear Advice forum where you'll get more help.

Burgundy shoes and ties go great with brown suits. Navy ties work great as well with blue or white shirts.

Keep it simple to start. White shirt, nice and crisp, along with a lighter shade of brown tie.

A blue tie could be hard to pull off with the somewhat aggressive brown houndstooth. I think keeping it all in the brown/ cognac family would look good.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking that blue, even a lighter shade, may be a little too much to combine with the suit. What's your opinion on this tie? It looks very similar to the suit itself but I'm questioning if it may be too much.

I like the tie on its own, but to my eyes, it's a little too close to the pattern of the suit. I think the colour is right on, but if it was me (and this all personal taste so I'm not going to say you're wrong by any means) I'd go for a solid in that colour.

But eff it. Get the tie and rock it too.
