Pre-crash I started a thread on great concerts and after last night's experience I thought I would do it again.

Last night Mrs 808 and I saw Pink Martini in DC. They were absolutely phenomenal. There were 12 band members including: singer, piano, cello, violin, secondary singer and light percussion, guitar, upright bass, drums, percussion1, percussion2, trumpet, and trombone. It was soooo good. They sang in English, Japanese, Croation (or maybe it was Serbian), Italian, French, Arabic, and Spanish. But their music isn't some ultra-ethnic music. It is swingy and dance-y, and they really dig songs from old movies and stuff.

I highly recommend them to everyone: http://www.pinkmartini.com

How about you? Anything good lately?

yeah, Pink Martini is a good band. I have some of their music but I've never had the live experience.

I haven't been to a show since August, but over the summer I saw:

Radiohead
Arctic Monkeys
Pearl Jam/Sonic Youth
Fiona Apple
We Are Scientists
Death Cab for Cutie
The Raconteurs
Ween/The Flaming Lips

I'm going to see the John Patitucci Trio in a few weeks.

Aesop is imo one of the best underground hip hop artist out now. Ghostface has to be the most underated. I'll get around to seeing Sage Frances (best unkown hip hop artist) eventually.

Only concerts I can think of mentioning:
Pearl Jam
Fleetwood Mac
WoodStock (99?)

At the top of my list to see is Mars Volta.

Wow... I am jealous!

Btw, Snog is touring the USA right now (as is Thrussel's other project, Black Lung)

I am hoping I get to see KMFDM with Combichrist next month...

NIN in 94 was pretty fun. Marilyn Manson didn't even wear makeup and look like a freak back then.

Oh. I guess I meant more recently. We just saw PM the other night.

My best ever would have to be

New Order in 01 at the Gorge in Washington
Ditty Bops at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis about a month ago.
Stacey Kent at the Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis last year (and at Blues Alley around the same time).
Bjork at the 9:30 club (or was it the Capital Ballroom?) in DC in 2000?
Underworld at the 9:30 in '00 also I think.
Michael Feinstein at the Strathmore in Bethesda last year.

I didn't get to see much concerts in my life unfortunately. I'm trying to get to see more of them now.

My best ever would have to be Radiohead in the Hail to the Thief tour. Totally amazing concert, even though it was outdoor.

This year I've seen:

Stars (very good show!)
The Strokes (this was just sick)

And then a few bands at the Osheaga festival:

Wolf Parade (sound problems, but it rocked)
Islands (they were just GREAT)
Metric (well, I just stared at Emily Haines the whole time)
Malajube (good quÃ

cois band, IMO)
The Stills
The Bell Orchestre (they surprised me; it was really good)
Dinosaur Jr.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! (they had a bad show which is unfortunate)
Final Fantasy

I was pissed that I had to leave after just one song of the Flaming Lips as they are the band that I like the best that was performing that week-end. At least I caught 'Race for the Prize', which is the one song that I wanted to hear.

On october 6th I shall see Tokyo Police Club and Beirut in a small and crappy venue of QuÃ

bec City*. I'm really looking forward to that!
