Does anyone know of any good books for beginning investors? I am looking to learn about investing. I have been socking money away for a few years into a company matched 401k plan and have money going into a few different funds, but I would like to learn more about 401ks and Iras and such. I appreciate the help!!!

There's a couple of threads about this. Use the search.

Yes, I just finished a fairly epic flamewar about how technical analysis was bullshit in the context of a beginner's investments book. Search for these keywords:

"efficient, markets, numbnuts, rational, shithead, witchcraft"

And you should land on the thread.. Good luck.

The Intelligent Investor. Really, you could become a seasoned professional with little more than this book.

i agree with matt.

Also it will do you well to research Warren Buffett and Benjamin Graham.

I take a long stance on all the stocks i buy, and i consider myself a value investor so i fallow Warren Buffett's way of investing, along with a handful of other long term investors.

If you want an informative paper, check out Valueline.com

Right now is an awesome time for buying, but be forwarned that you must put serious effort into knowing what you're doing prior to buying something.

We may see alot more billionaires and millionaires this time next year and even more so in 5 years from smart investors making wise moves now in sectors that are depressed now, we may also see alot of very broke people who were stock market gamblers.

I'm an amateur (and an indexer...I'm not sure which is worse), but my recommendation would to read John Bogle's foreword in the recent reprint of the 1949 The Intelligent Investor, then to read The Bogleheads Guide to Investing, then to read the The Intelligent Investor all the way through.

The investopedia is also a good tool for a beginner.
