I’m looking to get my first (nicer) suit. I rarely wear suits so don’t want to spend a lot,and was looking to pick up a navy suit for a good all around suit. Right now I’m going between the 1818 on sale for $600 or maybe a Strong suit at about the same price. Any other brands I should consider at $600?

I do realize these aren’t breaking into the higher end of the spectrum or even getting close. I only wear suits for interviews and weddings so I don’t want to spend big on one.

If you have accurate measurements you can get a new Belvest or D'avenza suit on ebay. Possibly even a Partenopea. All are great choices.

Caruso suits can often be found in that price range on Yoox. Once you try on one or two, you can get a general idea of how the brand fits in the shoulders. Other aspects are easier to alter and vary by model. Some features (button stance, leg width/taper) can be gauged from the info and photos online, but others (including choice of fabric) are better judged in person. In short, these can be very solid off-the-rack suits at a fair price (even allowing for alterations) if you have the time, patience, and luck to find something that works.

Pro Tipp:
Buy a reasonable on like boss or whatever for 350ish, get in the store right measurements, and tips how to care for suit, get it tailored in store for free, wear it 2 months, you see how it will transform (bad shoulders, back etc), measure after it all sizes buy high end online.

600$ buys you if you lucky brioni.(old)
900-1200$ kiton, EZ, Ford etc.

You should definitely look at Spier & Mackay. They fit your budget and I have been impressed with their offerings.
