dyeing cotton fabrics?

anybody got any experience dyeing cotton fabrics? i've got a pair of cream/white rrl cords i'm thinking about dyeing grey with some rit dye. don't know if it's worth the risk. any advice would be really welcome. thanks!

RIT is easy. However, if they started at white and the thread contains nylon, it won't take the dye (or it won't take it as well).

Virtually all modern thread does. Cotton thread does not hold up very well, and it really only shows up in the most repros of repros. It's more a question of whether or not yours will take any dye, which is pretty hard to tell.

WOAAHHH THERE. Never ever use RIT dye to dye clothes. I'd recommend Procion Mx dye. The dying process is slightly more complicated but can still be done in your washer. check out pburch.net. If you go into Blick art supplies or any other art supplier you should be able to get some soda ash and dye.
