The same with drinking. If she came to me and said "waah, I can't drink or smoke so I don't want you to either," I'd probably think she was an idiot, and want to toss her out of the house. My wife wouldn't ever do that, and I'd never marry somebody who would. Of course, if she was worried about the health of the baby, I would be fine not smoking around her when she was pregnant, but I don't know that I would go so far as to only smoke outside.

Sigh. I know. FWIW, I asked her and she agreed with me. She felt that this kind of **** was what ruined marriages and turned men into something less than men.

And if, unexpectedly, she found your smoking and/or drinking to be too much of a temptation to resist, what would you do?

If she found my smoking and/or drinking to be too much of a temptation to resist, I would seriously question her ability to deal with motherhood.

I wouldn't smoke around anyone who doesn't smoke -- but I don't smoke. Smoking around a pregnant woman or children is reprehensible. I didn't give up drinking nor did my wife ask me to when she was pregnant. In fact, having a pregnant wife always guaranteed a designated driver.

**** that ****. If she's gotta stop drinking then you better man up and start drinking for the two of you (maybe even 3).

My wife was pregnant three times and while I wouldn't smoke around her, I still smoked (and drank) as much as I normally would, which is at most a few cigs/week.

Perhaps you should also gain 30 lbs for moral support.

This discussion reminds me of the advice my brother-in-law gave me in the early stages of my wife's pregnancy. He said, when those hormones start acting up, don't argue with them. Just say" I'm going down to the corner to pick up a pack of cigarettes" and then just get out of the house.
