Yes, I think there are a few exceptions, but for the most part I think you need a degree.

I am slightly above entry level at target. I ******* hate school, but I am going to do something ANYTHING to get that expensive piece of paper with my name on it framed.

I agree. One should. A college dergree, even if you don't work in that same field, pays handsome dividends in the long run.

+1. I forgot where I read this, but I remember the salary gap between high school and college grads are about $15K.

It's not only the salary. College teaches you a lot of things you need in many aspects of your life.

One of my really great friend's dropped out of college and became a pretty successful stock broker at UBS. She was there for 6 years until the bottom fell out of the market... guess who was the first to be laid off? Didn't matter that her numbers were high, her manager loved her, she had tons of experience and was loyal to the company; it's about who has the most capacity for the future and who's the most expendable now to a bean counter in HQ. Now she can barely get an interview because she doesn't have her degree.

Maybe you're doing okay right now but think of the future. There is always going to be someone younger, smarter, cheaper and harder working gunning for you. They'll have the piece of paper too!

^^ Yes, that little piece of paper is really needed nowadays. And college really does round out your life and perspectives.

Plenty of evidence that on average, the more education you have, the more you make. If you're happy with what you're earning now, don't go back. If you want to make significantly more, or hope to be promoted at some point, go back.
