California to ban foie gras.

It's not the law places have to worry about it's the protestors. I remember when I went to Cyrus I could still see some faint red paint defacing the front of the place as we entered and I also heard a protestor had actually punched Keane within the last few weeks as he entered the place.

Nah, the protestor (technically not a he, a legal transsexual) punched one of my coworkers, but not Keane. That led to the restraining order. It was fun times.

All part of the People's Republic of California where they save us from ourselves. I don't eat Foie Gras that often, but I'd at least like the option to do so. But I guess I can go get it when I travel still.

Santa Monica recently banned paper bags as a free giveaway. They charge a dime for each of them now which isn't that big of a deal. Kind of lame, even at farmer's markets.

Edit to say it tastes horrible, you can get fake Foie Gras which I've been told tastes exactly the same.

On July 1, SB 1520, the bill that bans the production and sale of both foie gras and foie gras byproducts (including feathers for down jackets and comforters) goes into effect, and anybody wanting a legal taste of the stuff is going to have to do it in another state. After June 30, a restaurant that serves foie gras — typically produced via gavage, a process in which ducks or geese are fed through tubes inserted in their throats — can be fined up to $1,000.

A local restaurant (Julienne) was having special foie-themed prix fixe dinners these past two weeks.

I don't see a reason to ban it, but why are people on this site so obsessed by foie gras? It tastes okay but I think people are more enamored by the idea of eating it than the taste itself. I mean, I could make chicken liver mush and most people would probably never know the difference.

What's great is that the restaurants in the Presidio are not subject to this law because they are on Federal land.

Whether foie gras or smoking I don't support bans that are imposed of business owners. Leave it up to the owner to determine what's on offer and the customer to decide whether to patronize. If the public genuinely detests foie gras good business sense shows it'll soon enough disappear from menus.
