Sihsih I have some Berluti's and have just brought a Goyard attaché case. There are fans of Moynard on here. I steer away from LV, Gucci, Prada and Hermes because they are too common in my neck of the woods.

Of those Goyard makes to order - but you will have to take out a mortgage.

Hi Sihsih,

Simon Baker would perhaps be your best bet, a classic casemaker with 30 years experience based out of Scotland.

Many SFers carry his work and examples of his cases abound throughout this thread and a few review threads. A google for Simon Baker casemaker will yield a few more photos still. You can reach him through SF as 'casemaker'.

Cheers,
Shane

I'm discovering Moynat, thanks for the tip ! I really like the style.

Many thanks to both of you for the referral to Simon, I'll dig further into this thread to have a look at his cases and probably contact him afterwards.

He makes lovely traditional English briefcases in the SAB school, but properly like they used to! I think theres a whole construction three somewhere. He posts here as Casmaker - he may not want to blow his own trumpet though being (nearly) English!

So, my fiancee just told me that she want to buy me a briefcase for graduating law school and I have spent the last couple of days gawking at the bags on this thread. I was hoping that someone might be able to direct me towards the right case for me. The price range is 500-800 and I am thinking I want a flapover briefcase. Since I will be doing transactional work, I won't have to carry a ton of docs, so I can probably get away with something with two or three pockets, but I am a fan of minimalist bags. I'd like one pocket that can hold my laptop, but it doesn't need to be padded. Mostly, I just want a great bag that will age with me in my practice and I can use for decades.

Here are the two bags that are my inspiration:

This Japanese bag is beautiful in ways that I can't even describe, but I can't find it anywhere online and I can only imagine it is substantially out of the price range.

This latch case from JP Marcellino is also awesome -- http://www.jpmarcellino.com/index.p...lish-bridle-latch-briefcase/habermas-2042.htm, but it's base is outside of the price range, and I would probably want to add a couple of things to it.

So any recommendations that you guys have would be wonderful. Thanks

The dimensions are a bit smaller than the SAB at 17 x 12.

With just the rear ticket pocket the bag is about 6.5 lbs. With a full-length rear magazine/newspaper pocket it will be a bit heavier.
These guys still in existence?

I'm pretty sure that I saw that bag some time back in the Hankyu department store in Hibiya, next to Ginza in Tokyo. If it's the same bag, it was made of shell cordovan and cost about $3000. It was a really lovely bag. I think that the maker was a Japanese company called something like Warm Crafts.
