Who told you that suspenders with chinos is a "collegiate/preppy thing?"

who said that I said it was? It is pretty clear that the model in the image is going for the 'preppy' look, although I never stated that chinos+suspenders=preppy, nor did I intend to imply that.

Even when I wore braces with all my suits, which I don't any more, I always disliked braces with odd trousers. Always got my odd trousers with belt loops.

So, you're saying the model in the image is going for the 'preppy look,' but failing, and you love that?

Whoever said that a blazer and flannels was inherently informal? Sure, it is if you've got a polo shirt underneath and aren't wearing socks but put a French cuffed shirt, silk tie and pocket square into the ensemble and you have something appropriate to wear to the opera in the summer time. So no, holding up your flannels with suspenders is not a 'clash of formalities'. Given some of the suspenders I've seen for sale at Thurston's, I'd say it would be waggish, droll even.

who said I said it was failing? You seem to be implying a lot, just for the hell of it.

it looks preppy to me, maybe classified as 'new' prep, since it may not be 'traditional'

call it what you want, i enjoy the look - that's all.
